DRILLING TIPS FOR OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE
For the best performance when using our drills, follow these guidelines:
- Speed and Pressure: Use a medium drilling speed and apply light pressure. Regularly lift the drill to clear away debris from the hole.
- Avoid Common Mistakes: Do not bend the drill, drill at very slow or excessively high speeds, or force the drill downwards.
Our carbide drills are designed to stay sharp even after drilling numerous holes. Despite their durability, we occasionally receive reports of broken bits. To address this, we sourced the highest quality carbide bits, made from solid carbide with 10% cobalt. These bits are custom-made for a precise fit with the 1.6mm OD injection needle included in our kit, making them the hardest and most reliable option available.
Due to their specialized nature, these drills can be expensive. If you need a replacement drill urgently, you might find a 3mm multipurpose twist drill bit at a local hardware store. While these can be a temporary solution for grout joints of 3mm or wider, they generally wear out quickly when drilling through tougher materials like concrete and grout.
We chose carbide twist drills for their versatility. They work well with any portable drill and are effective for a range of materials including concrete, grout, stone, and ceramic. For extremely hard materials, such as porcelain tiles, diamond drill bits are an alternative. However, diamond drills require high drilling speeds of 10,000-15,000 RPM, which is typically achievable only with specialized tools like a spindle or ‘Dremel’ tool. Portable drills do not reach these speeds.
By following these tips and using the right tools, you’ll achieve the best results with your drilling projects.
